Sprout Projects Supported

There are lots of exciting environmental projects that we feel privileged to be supporting.  Unfortunately, due to being really busy, we do not always have time to list all of the projects on here.  A number of the projects are outlined and talked about on the home page but if you can’t find the information you’re looking for then please get in touch! Contact Jabran or Rachel on jabran@partnershipcouncil.co.uk or rachel@partnershipcouncil.co.uk

Here’s just a few of the projects we’ve been supporting:

Your Healthy Garden:

This project is for young people ageed 16.-25 to develop an understanding of using food products that can be grown in their own gardens.  The young people will also learn about organic food and healthy eating. They will be partcipating in the garden and will be shown how to plant something themselves in the garden.

Umair says, “I have realised that it is important to make people realise that they need take part in growing their own food.  The young people will learn in detail how to grow vegetables and they will also be educated on how this helps the environment.”

Grow Your Salads:

Farah would like to train young people aged 13-25 years old from all ethnicties, refugees and assylum seekers how to grow their own salads. This will involve the young people carrying out research to find out about particular types of salad they think will be useful for the garden. The young people will visit the garden centre to purchase the seeds and salad plants. They will also learn how to plant the seeds and plants in the garden.Farah says, “I have personally realised that within the Asian community young people are not gardening and carrying out environmental actvities. This project will make the young people more aware about growing salads, their own food, healthy eating and how to protect their local envirionment.”
180° Space Allotment Project:

To develop the Ainsley Estate Allotment Site, to grow fruit and vegetables. Also to get people from the local community involved.
Reware

This project involves making clothes form recycled materials and also to organise a fashion event to present the clothes that have been made from recycled materials.

Passion4Fashion:

Reusing old clothes to make handbags, own clothes, do embroidery, paint old things to make it look new.

Mobile Phone Recycling:

Mobile Phone Recycling is a project that recycles old mobile phones. The project aims to help people from all walks of life, from 18-55, including asylum seekers and refugees. The project aims to make people aware that to throw old mobile phones away would be such waste.

Pusto & Farsi Recycling DVD:

To produce a recycling DVD in Pusto & Farsi language to educate people who are refugees from the Pusto and Farsi speaking community on how to recycle and what materials to recycle.

Glass Be Great:

To use old glass bottles and glass material, which is not being, recycled from the kerbside to make murals and use it for other artwork. This will reduce the amount of glass bottles and other glass material that is thrown away into the landfill.

Graffiti Mania

Aisha would like to provide workshops for young people based on awareness of environmental issues. These workshops will be specifically looking at how many young people can recycle old clothing and turn them into a fashion statement.

Aisha says “This project will benefit young people aged between 10-25years old from all ethnicities and genders. It will also benefit people from the local community, young people who are socially excluded. “

Enviro Art Attack

Aisha has developed a project that would create awareness for young people on how waste can be turned into art. There will be workshops based around awareness of recycling, re-use and reducing the amount of waste going to landfill sites. In addition these workshops will provide the young people with awareness of the local and global environmental issues and how they can be prevented.

Aisha says  “This project will benefit young people aged between 10-25years old from all ethnicities and genders. It will also benefit people from the local community, young people who are socially excluded. “

Fusion:

This is a project that is aimed at training young people how to grow plants and maintain gardens.

The young people have cleared out two overgrown sites.  One of the sites has been planted with broccoli and the other site has had wood chipping put onto it. Planter boxes are being made out of plywood for the site that has had wood chipping put onto it.

They are working towards the Bronze level of the Youth Achievement Awards for Garden Maintenance and Growing Plants.

Integrate:

This project is directed at young people aged between 16.-25, who are refugees and asylum seekers to learn how to grow herbs and vegetables through practical sessions at the allotment.

They will also carry out presentations and workshops to their peer group, and other young people to teach them about growing different types of food, healthy eating and how to create meals using the products that they have grown at the allotment.

They will also organise a launch event for the opening of the allotment where they will invite other organisations to have stalls and also carry out workshops for the young people.

Austen says. “this project will develop an understanding of using organic food products that can be grown on the allotment. Also to create an awareness about growing organic plants and the local environment.”

Fruit and Notts:

This is a project, which aims to plant fruit and nut trees on public spaces in and around area 4 to educate people about local food production and also (eventually) provide food for people in the local community.  We are looking for people to suggest sites where trees could be planted.  If you have an idea, please get in touch.

Abundance

This project looks at the amount of waste fruit from trees and is aimed at collecting and redistributing this throughout the local community.

Notts Plan Bee

This project aims to encourage and protect Bumblebee and wild Honeybee populations in the city of Nottingham. The main way in which we hope to achieve this is by planting wildflowers and some cottage garden plants at sites around the city. Many of our wildflowers are beautiful and are beloved by bees so will bring colour and life to allotments and community spaces around the city.

Refugee Forum Garden Project:

The idea of this project is to make the garden a nice place so that people can learn to grow their own food so that they don’t have to buy as much food.

Sumac Container Growing Project:

The idea of the Sumac Container Gardening project is for the garden to act as an example/ show-garden of growing fruit and vegetables in containers.  The volunteer leading on the project wants the garden to act as an inspiration to other people who don’t have their own gardens.
