As some of you may know, the Art Organisation is putting on Space for Life – Big Green Weekend on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th February and are creating an open submission exhibition for artists working on the theme of the environment.  Sprout have decided that this would be a great opportunity to  get involved in and are looking for volunteers that would be interested in joining together to make a sculpture piece made from mixed media recycled materials and paper mache.  We are open to your ideas and suggestions for the piece and will be working on it during next week  If you would like to get involved please contact us as soon as you can.

We’re back at Nottingham Organic Gardener’s allotment this Saturday from 10am-2pm for the second of this year’s joint sessions at their Whitemoor allotment plot, Wilkinson Street, Whitemoor.

There are still a few places left on this Saturday’s session so if you’re aged 16-25 and interested in learning how to grow your own fruit and vegetables by assisting a team of very passionate and experienced gardeners on their plot, then get in touch to book your place!

The first of this year’s sessions was highly enjoyable and we planted sweet peas, potatoes, strawberries, broad beans, fruit trees, put up nets, helped build up the edge of the allotment using sticks and a old hedge.

Here are some photos from the last session:

After the hard work, it’s time for some well deserved lunch!

Six new projects have been set up by young people this month, which are:

  2. EnviroMural: To produce a mural on a wall in the local community to highlight the local environmental message such as recycling, re-use and save our planet.
  3. Save Your Globe and Home: To organise a exhibition and workshops about environmental issues. This project will make people aware of local and global environmental issues.
  4. Share Your Transport: To carry out research on how people travel for work, for leisure and if they car share. There will be a blog developed and workshops on raising awareness of car share, cycling, walking and public transport etc.
  5. Making Your Community and Home Greener: This project will look at how to save energy by doing energy audits for the local community. To carry out workshops for young people and the local community for them to become aware of how to become more energy efficient.
  6. Ace Recycling: The project will involve organising workshops and an event to make people from the ethnic community and young people more aware of how and what can be recycled in the City of Nottingham and local neighbourhood.
